Newcastle University's men's tennis teams have enjoyed a stellar season once again with both the 1sts and 2nds winning their respective divisions.
The 1st team led this year by captain and Newcastle University veteran Jurgen Springer finished first in Tier 1 of the BUCS tennis leagues following three promotions in four years from all the way down in Tier 3. Jurgen along with club president Alex Dodd, James Parkin and Alex Watt have defied the odds to take the men's 1st team into the northern premiership, something inconceivable a few years ago.
Head coach John Henderson commented, 'I am so pleased for all of the players involved, not just this seasons, but all of the players who contributed both to the success and the dramatic change in culture of the tennis teams over the last five years.'
The 2nd team led by social secretary Alistair Bourne won nine of it's ten matches across the season having to travel to Durham, Leeds, Sheffield and York to top Tier 3. A great performance in a difficult league!
A special mention must go to former club presidents and 1st team regular Corey Chan who will be leaving the university for the NHS after graduating. Corey has helped the Newcastle University staff set a performance driven mentality in the club and led by example throughout his time at Newcastle. Good luck Corey!
