Men's 1st just miss out but ladies remain in premiership

Despite being one of the stronger teams in Tier 1 of the BUCS squash leagues the men's 1sts had lost momentum with some unfortunate absences of key players in away games. They still had a chance to win the division in the final game away at Durham but with three key players missing after an outbreak of mumps the odds weren't looking good. Up stepped club veteran Matt Setterfield who produced one of the performances of his life to inspire his team mates to victory, a brilliant day.

This led the team to a playoff against premiership outfit Oxford who proved to be too strong despite a promising start by fresher Hector Scott Lyon. Kudos to Martin Jolley for the epic 10 hour drive there and back to Newcastle, that's some effort.

The squash club's ladies 1st team managed to secure their premiership status after a frustrating 2019/20 campaign saw them tie with three other teams in both stage 1 and stage 2 but end up in 4th position both times.

The important first round of the championship cup which acts as the premiership playoff took place at the new squash courts in the Newcastle University Sport Centre against Bristol. With a passionate and fiercely partisan crowd the girls blew Bristol away and clinched premiership squash for another season.
