Teams
The badminton club have five teams that compete in the British University and College Sport league (BUCS) system; three men's teams and two women's. Our women's 1st team are in the National Premiership which is the highest standard of university badminton in the UK.
Our teams compete on Wednesday afternoons during term time in league and cup fixtures. Home fixtures are played out of our sport centre on campus and most away matches can be anywhere around the north of England. Our women's 1st team have to travel a bit further around the country to compete in the higher National Premier division.

Team Format
Our badminton teams each consist of a squad of six: two singles players and two doubles pairings. Each player has two matches per fixture and each match is worth a point towards the overall team score. We pick our squad based on ability at the start of the year during trials but there are also plenty of opportunities to make additions or changes to the squad.
Last season our women's teams held their positions in the National Premier division and Tier 2 respectively while our men's teams held their positions in Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 4. We're looking forward to a strong season in 2022/23!
